About Gone with the Wynd

Born with Itchy Feet

I started Gone With The Wynd when I couldn’t travel to the places I really wanted to on my own. I wanted to go to places where I needed to hire guides, cooks, boats, security, 4x4s, porters and more, and it was prohibitively expensive – the cost is more or less the same for one person as for ten. I was born with itchy feet; there was a huge map on my childhood kitchen wall and I used to ponder it and want to go everywhere. I still do. I primarily specialise in New Guinea and go back again and again and again, but I am fascinated by traditional cultures everywhere, particularly the Pacific region and West and Central Africa.

Every trip is led personally by Viktor Wynd or one of our specialists, such as Dr. Louise Fenton. Groups are tiny, usually 5–10 people, and every expedition is a voyage of discovery rather than a package holiday.
